In an attempt to have more food adventures and cross off a place from our “foodie list” my friend Brenda and I decided to hit up Punch Bowl Social on a Monday night.
The first thing I gravitated to was a cocktail:
It’s A Mer-Man’s World
Old Forester Bourbon + Teakoe’s Pineapple Papaya Tea + Cardamom Syrup + Appleton Estate Rum + Fresh Lime Juice
The drink was refreshing and packed with citrus flavors. I had to try it since Bourbon is my drink of choice.
I moved on to the food.
I tend to ask the employees what they order most, or what is the most ordered dish. Our wonderful bartender, who waited on us for about 4 hours (goooo him!) was very helpful when it came to recommending what to eat. I landed on the two dishes below:
Lil Street Tacos
Cocoa Dusted Pork Carnitas + Salsa Adobo + Crema + Radish + Queso Cotija + Yellow Onion + Lime + Cilantro
Chicken Wings
Sweet Cilantro Sauce + Buttermilk Dressing
Although they were both very exquisite, the tacos took the cake. The meat was tender beyond words, as soon as your lips touched the meat it fell apart in your mouth. The tortillas matched the texture of the meat in that it was soft, they must be dipped in some sort of sauce before being wrapped around everything else. The Cotija cheese that you tasted at the end of the bite, added a hint of bold flavor that brought the whole taco together. Can’t wait to go back and get the order of 8!
The wings were also very tasty, sweet and tangy at the same time. I finished everything, not a bite left.
Overall the place has clean frat house- y vibes. There are over 8 bartenders in this place at a given time. The place is separated into about 4 different sections each with a different feel.
We mostly stayed at the bar, but we did see the bowling lanes, some corn hole areas and the diner area where they had a display with desserts such as the Old Fashioned Upside Down Cupcake.
