About Me

Budgeting and Saving

Money has always been an issue for me.

Growing up my parents had it good, we  were never short and we always had what we asked for, not that we asked for much. My father and mother worked good jobs and they were paid well for their manually intensive jobs.

One day my dad was injured at his work and it all changed.

My teen years I did what I could to help out my family, I started working as a tutor in high school so that way my parents did not have to worry about helping me out with anything. Thanks to them, I became more independent.

Now I am almost 30 years-old. I have a good job with awesome benefits. I live at home. I am recently engaged and am in the process of planning a wedding. I’m financing a car that I bought last year and I am still paying a large sum of my student loans. I am like every other 25-30 year-old trying to figure things out.

Budgeting and saving have become the most important thing in my life (other than family, of course). The main change that I have made is making sure that i do not spend on things that I don’t need and I only shop for things that are completely necessary.

This year I am saving for three very important things:

  • House
  • Wedding
  • Honeymoon

Since I am in saving mode, below I have a few tips that have helped me with getting to my goal by the end of this year:

  • If you are set up for direct deposit make sure that separate at least 5% of your paycheck to go to your savings. You will never see that money, so you won’t miss it.
  • Shop for clothing at thrift stores, you will spend a lot less if you lookout for sales. Most of my clothing for work come from thrift stores.
  • Give yourself a weekly budget based on all your bills and payments. For example, if your take home pay is 2,000 a month an your bills are 800 you have 1,200 left over. Budget out food, gas and misc and divide it by 4. Voila! That’s how much you should budget a week. Put the rest in your savings!

Those are just a few tricks that I personally do, make sure you let me know what you guys do!
